Las Vegas is a city known for good times, gambling, and of course, weddings. The image of a small chapel and an Elvis impersonator at the helm may come to mind, but there is so much more to getting married in Sin City. According to Nevada’s marriage records, around 120,000 marriage ceremonies are performed each year in Las Vegas with an average of 10,000 ceremonies taking place each month! If you think about it that way, they can’t all be getting married in that tiny chapel, right?
One of the most popular destinations for weddings is downtown Las Vegas. With its vintage charm, stunning backdrops, energetic crowds, and decades of successful ceremonies, it’s no wonder that Las Vegas has been crowned the Wedding Capital of the World. Here’s what you need to know when it comes to having your wedding in downtown Las Vegas:
Ease In Getting a Marriage License
The marriage license is ultimately what is going the seal the matrimonial union. It is required by law that a couple must first seek a marriage license before they can officially tie the knot. In Las Vegas, the license is issued by the Clark County Marriage License Bureau which is conveniently located in downtown Las Vegas. In fact, Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino is less than a mile away!
The license can only be issued when both parties physically appear before the clerk at the Marriage Bureau. The license can be issued on the same day you apply provided you have a form of identification and all the necessary documents needed. For you to obtain a marriage license in Las Vegas, you must fulfill the following conditions:
- Both the applicants that intend to get married must be over 18 years
- Applicants must provide valid photo identification
- U.S. citizens must present their social security numbers
- Each new applicant must not have a living spouse
- The couple should not be related, including half-cousins
It should be noted that a blood test is not a requirement to get a marriage license. There is a law that was recently passed in Nevada that allows for Clark County to issue licenses to same-sex couples. The certificate will be available after 10 business days immediately after the wedding. It usually costs $15 and can be ordered online from the county clerk.
Wedding Planning Without the Stress
Planning your wedding can be both stressful and time-consuming, especially if you’re trying to do everything on your own.
