THE ULTIMATE GUIDE ON HOW TO PLAY ROULETTE

PUBLISHED: DECEMBER 10, 2020 -   Mar 18, 2022

Ever been tempted to test your luck on roulette while you’re in Las Vegas? It can be a little intimidating if you don’t know how to play, but there’s a reason it’s one of the most exciting and popular table games on any casino floor

Ever been tempted to test your luck on roulette while you’re in Las Vegas? It can be a little intimidating if you don’t know how to play, but there’s a reason it’s one of the most exciting and popular table games on any casino floor. The rules are simple and you can potentially win big! Even if it’s your first time placing a bet, you will get the hang of it pretty quickly. If you want to play roulette like a pro, here’s what you need to know.

THE BASICS OF ROULETTE

When you walk into any casino, you’ll recognize the roulette tables right away. There’s a wheel that features slots for numbers 1 to 36 as well as either one or two slots for zeroes. The number slots are either red or black, and the zero slots are green. Players will stand around a table where the roulette wheel is laid out, and this is where bets are placed.

Players can place bets until the dealer closes the betting session. Once all bets are placed, the dealer spins the wheel and throws in a small, marble-sized ball into it that spins in the opposite direction. The ball will eventually fall into one of the marked slots, which determines which bets receive a payout.

If you have placed a bet that corresponds to the color or number of the slot, you will receive a payout. Also, check for special bet promotions that can increase your winnings.

HOW TO MAKE ROULETTE BETS

There are two basic groups of bets that every player should be familiar with because they determine roulette payouts. The first group is known as inside bets, and the second group is outside bets. The roulette terms for these bets are essential for players to know when they step up to the table.

Inside and outside refer to where on the roulette board the bets are being placed. Bets that are placed on the numbers are called “inside,” and bets placed on other sections of the board are called “outside.”

Here are examples of inside bets:

1. STRAIGHT
A straight bet is made on a single number. For this, you place the chip directly over the number.

2. SPLIT
This bet covers two adjacent numbers. Make this bet by placing the chip on a shared edge between the numbers.

3. STREET
A street bet, which may also be called a line bet, covers three numbers on a single vertical line. For this one, you place your chip on the outside edge of the row.

4. CORNER
A corner or square bet covers four numbers within an adjacent square. Place your chip on the common corner for this bet.

5. DOUBLE STREET
This is also sometimes called a six line, and it covers two adjacent vertical lines. To make this bet, place your chip on the shared outer corner of the first numbers in each line.

6. TRIO
This is a special, three-number bet that includes the zero and two adjacent numbers. For this, place your chip in the center of where the three number squares meet.

SPECIAL CASES
There are two additional inside bets that are only available for certain variations. The “first four” bet, which covers 0-1-2-3, is only available for European roulette. The “basket” bet, which covers 00-0-1-2-3, is only available for American roulette.

Here are the outside bets you can place at the roulette table:

1. LOW OR HIGH
For this, you can bet on numbers 1 to 18, which is the low bet, or 19 to 36, which is the high bet. If the ball lands on any of the numbers in your chosen range, you win.

2. RED OR BLACK
This bet is placed on all numbers that are either red or black. If the winning number features your chosen color, you win.

3. EVEN OR ODD
For this bet, you wager on all of the even or odd numbers, excluding zero.

4. DOZENS
In this, you’re betting on either the first, second, or third square of 12 numbers.

5. COLUMNS
Column bets are made on one of three 12-number columns. You win if one of those numbers hits.

HOT TIPS ON ROULETTE STRATEGY

Now that you know what bets you can place, here’s the good stuff. You’re probably wondering how to turn these bets into a winning spin. Although every player has their personal preferences and good luck charms, there are some popular approaches you may want to consider. Check out these insider tips on some roulette strategies:

  • Remember that a good strategy can help you place a winning bet, but no amount of strategy can influence the outcome of a spin.
  • Some players like to bet on “hot numbers,” which is a term that refers to the most recent winning numbers. This method gets mixed results, but it’s popular among certain groups of players.
  • When you play American roulette, the house edge is around 5.3 percent. When you play European roulette, the house advantage drops to about 2.7 percent, which is why it’s often more popular.
  • If you want to spend more time at the table, remember that inside bets are more volatile. Although they have a lower payoff, statistically, you will win more often with outside bets. For example, bet on black or red, odd or even, or column bets.
  • Talk to your dealer! No matter how much you may think you know about roulette, your dealer almost always knows more. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You’ll catch on quickly if you lean on the expert. (Don’t forget to tip!)
  • Pay attention to minimum bets. If you’re on a budget, you want to find roulette tables with lower minimum bets. If you’re looking for a bigger payout, look for the high roller tables.
  • Many experienced gamblers will tell you to go with your gut. There’s only so much a mathematical strategy can do. You really never know what could happen at the roulette table!

PUBLISHED: MAY 27, 2021 -   Mar 18, 2022

If you’re heading to Downtown Grand for some much-needed excitement, awesome food, or a little rest and relaxation, you may be wondering about parking.

If you’re heading to Downtown Grand for some much-needed excitement, awesome food, or a little rest and relaxation, you may be wondering about parking. Parking in Downtown Las Vegas is generally less expensive than the Strip and is conveniently close to all the downtown action. Here are all the options for parking downtown Las Vegas has to offer:

DOWNTOWN GRAND PARKING DETAILS

PARKING GARAGE

With so many things to do in Downtown Las Vegas, a centrally-located parking spot is always a good idea. Downtown Grand offers the best gambling, dining, and accommodations you’ll find in the area, while also situated right in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. You’re within walking distance from Fremont Street, Downtown Container Park, and Fremont East District.

The Downtown Grand parking structure offers self-parking for Downtown Las Vegas visitors around the clock. With a parking attendant on site 24 hours a day, you won’t have to worry about hurrying back to your car before a certain time. Rates depend on the day and how long your vehicle is parked in the garage. Rates may be higher for special events and dates such as New Year’s Eve.

Monday through Thursday, the rates are as follows:

  • First 2 hours – $6
  • 2 – 4 hours – $8
  • 4 – 8 hours – $10
  • 8 – 24 hours – $12

Friday through Sunday is a flat rate of $15 for every 24 hours in the garage. If you’re a Downtown Grand hotel guest, look no further for free parking in downtown Las Vegas! Self-parking for hotel guests is complimentary in the Downtown Grand parking garage.

Downtown Grand will also validate your garage parking pass if you earn 25 points in the casino or spend $25 at any of the on-property restaurants, bars, or the Grand Citrus Pool Deck.

VALET PARKING

Downtown Grand offers valet parking for both hotel guests and Downtown Las Vegas visitors. The hotel guest rate is $20 for overnight parking. For non-hotel guests, it depends on the availability and the volume of traffic at the property. Generally, valet parking will be $25, pricing could go up if there is a big event happening downtown.

DOWNTOWN CONTAINER PARK LOT

Downtown Container Park is only a few minutes from Downtown Grand and offers a unique place to dine, shop, and bring the family while in Downtown Las Vegas. The parking lot is located right across the street from Container Park at 118 S. 7th Street and puts you within walking distance of all the Downtown Las Vegas casinos, bars, and attractions on Fremont Street.

Parking rates at the Container Park lot are $3 per hour, with a maximum limit of 5 hours. This parking lot is not very big, so there’s a good chance it will fill up during peak hours or when there’s an event going on. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have a backup parking plan just in case.

NEONOPOLIS PARKING GARAGE
You may know Neonopolis on Fremont Street as the home of Heart Attack Grill and Banger Brewing. However, you may not know that Neonopolils also offers plenty of underground parking at a reasonable rate if you don’t plan on staying long in Downtown Las Vegas.

Your first hour of parking in the Neonopolis garage is free, with a fee of $2 for the second hour. If you stay longer than 2 hours, there is a flat rate of $8 for up to 24 hours in the lot. If you’re planning just to grab a quick bite or take a peek at Fremont Street, this is probably your best bet.

If you do opt for this parking garage, be prepared for the possibility that you will get stuck in heavy traffic. If you’re visiting on the weekend or in the evening, keep in mind that you could be looking for an open parking spot for a while. It may also take some time to exit the structure with cars getting backed up to pay.

GARAGE MAHAL ON FREMONT STREET

Recently added to the Downtown Las Vegas landscape, Garage Mahal on Fremont Street offers 982 parking spaces for downtown visitors. Parking at Garage Mahal will cost you $4 per hour, so keep that in mind if you plan to stay in Downtown Las Vegas for a while. You can also choose to valet your car for a flat rate of $15. However, it’s based on availability and priority goes to Circa guests.

This new parking structure tells you exactly how many spots are available, so you don’t waste your time driving around looking for an available spot.

DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS RIDESHARE INFO

Another option for getting around Downtown Las Vegas is to skip the driving altogether and take an Uber or Lyft instead. Ridesharing has become a popular way to get to and from Downtown Las Vegas, especially during a busy event. It’s also good to keep ridesharing in mind if you’ve had a few drinks and need a safe way to get home.

Here are some helpful tips and info to make your ridesharing experience a little easier:

1. DOWNTOWN GRAND DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP AREA

The rideshare drop-off and pick-up area for Downtown Grand is located on the stretch of 3rd Street between the casino and Triple George Grill. Your Uber or Lyft driver will most likely pull over to the side of the street where the casino is located. It is a one-way street with diagonal street parking on the opposite side of the Downtown Grand casino.

2. SUGGESTED FREMONT STREET PICK-UP AREA

If you’re on Fremont Street, the easiest pick-up locations are just behind the McDonalds on Fremont Street between E. Carson Avenue and 3rd Street fr accessibility or at the rideshare hub at Garage Mahal for a more organized process.

3. MAKE SURE YOUR DRIVER HAS THE RIGHT ADDRESS

With so many casinos, bars, and restaurants in the downtown area, the GPS location identified by your rideshare app can sometimes be a little off. To help your driver find you, it’s always best to confirm the address before requesting your ride.

4. BE AWARE OF THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC

Your rideshare driver won’t be able to just stop wherever you want to be picked up. Make sure you’re in a safe place where the driver can easily see you and pull over without stopping the flow of traffic or pedestrians.

MASS TRANSIT IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

If you’re wondering about the mass transit Las Vegas provides, there are several bus lines that run through the downtown area, including the free Downtown Loop and The Deuce from The Strip. Taking the bus is generally a very affordable way to get around Downtown Las Vegas and you don’t have to worry about parking. However, you do have to wait for the bus and they don’t always run all night. Be sure to check updated Las Vegas bus schedules and plan ahead.

PARK FOR FREE AT DOWNTOWN GRAND

As mentioned earlier, you can have your parking validated at Downtown Grand in one of two ways. The first is to spend $25 at one of the on-property outlets. This includes Freedom Beat, Triple George Grill, or Citrus Grand Pool Deck.

The second way is to sign up for the Downtown Grand Rewards Program and earn 25 points in the casino. You can play any of our slots, video poker, or table games to earn points quickly. Then take your rewards card to the Grand Rewards booth to have your parking ticket validated. You can also build points for other exclusive perks, including free slot play, dining discounts, hotel upgrades, and official Downtown Grand merchandise.

HOW TO GET TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS FROM THE STRIP

PUBLISHED: JANUARY 16, 2020 -   Mar 18, 2022

If you’re planning to visit Las Vegas, you’ll probably get more than one recommendation to check out downtown while you’re here.

If you’re planning to visit Las Vegas, you’ll probably get more than one recommendation to check out downtown while you’re here. For those who are unfamiliar with the city, you might not know where downtown is. How can you get there from the Strip? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!

Here are all the ways to get to Downtown Las Vegas from The Strip:

DRIVING YOURSELF TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

If you have your car with you and you prefer to drive to Downtown Las Vegas from The Strip, the directions are pretty simple. Downtown Las Vegas sits just north of the Strip and is about a 10-minute drive, depending on traffic and where you start. The most straightforward way to go is to head north on Las Vegas Boulevard. Once you hit Carson Avenue, you’ll know you’re right in the heart of downtown.

You can also take the I-15 northbound and follow the signs for Downtown Las Vegas. From the I-15 North, take exit 42B onto 95 South, then take the very next exit 75B to Downtown LV and Casino Center Blvd. Exit 75B will take you to N Casino Center Blvd and the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. Check out where to park in Downtown Las Vegas for the most convenient parking options.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS
For those of you who don’t have a car or don’t want to drive, public transportation is another option to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip. There are two bus lines, the Deuce or the SDX Express, that can pick you up from multiple locations along the Strip. The Deuce operates 24/7 while the SDX Express line runs from 9:00 am to midnight every day.

The Deuce line makes more stops along the way, so it may take a little longer to get to downtown. However, there are more locations where you can catch the bus, which can be convenient, depending on where you’re staying. The SDX Express line has fewer stops but does not run all night. You can purchase passes for either line at the vending machines at most stops, including 2-hour, 24-hour, and 3-day passes.

LAS VEGAS MONORAIL
Monorail

You may have seen the Las Vegas monorail running along the Strip and are wondering if it will take you to Downtown Las Vegas. Unfortunately, it does not run all the way to the downtown area. Although, it does take you as far north as the Sahara Hotel & Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Once you get to the Sahara, you can either jump in a cab or take a rideshare service to Downtown Las Vegas. The drive will only take about five minutes. Although the distance from The Sahara to downtown is just over 2 miles, you should always exercise caution if you decide to walk. Extreme summer temperatures can lead to dehydration quickly! Also, the monorail does not run all night, so keep that in mind if you plan to be out late.

CATCH A CAB TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS
yellow taxi with yellow taxi sign

Taxis are easy to get from any of the major hotels or casinos on the Strip. There is usually a cab line in the main driveway of the hotel or casino where you can catch a taxi without having to worry about flagging one down. If you’re not sure where the cab line is, just ask any of the hotel staff and they’ll be able to direct you.

Although it might be a convenient way to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip, it’s not always the most affordable choice. Cabs generally charge a waiting time fee during the busiest periods throughout the day. Also, if you get stuck in traffic (which can happen often on the Strip), you can run up a pretty expensive meter. If it’s a particularly busy time, you may want to consider an alternative way to get to downtown if you’re on a budget.

RIDESHARE SERVICES FROM THE STRIP TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

One of the most popular options to get to Downtown Las Vegas from the Strip is choosing a rideshare service, such as Uber or Lyft. Just as taxis have their own pickup area at casinos, rideshare drivers also have a dedicated area to pick up riders. Also, there’s an abundance of drivers at any time of day or night, so you’ll never wait long for your ride.

Ridesharing is a great choice if you happen to have multiple people in your group or want to save some money by opting for the less expensive options, such as Uber Pool. To make the process easier for you, here are some insider tips for rideshare pickups on the Strip:

  1. Rideshare pickups are never in the front entrance or valet area of hotels. They are always in the back or side entrance. Ask a hotel employee where the rideshare pickup area is if you are not sure.
  2. Do not order your ride too early. With the high amount of rideshare vehicles on the Strip, your ride will often arrive in 5 minutes or less. Make sure you’re in the pickup area and ready to go when you order your ride.
  3. Once you order your ride, confirm the rideshare app has the right hotel and pickup location. (After you order the right the GPS will select your pick up location and display it in the app). With so many pick up areas close together on the Strip, the app will often place you at the incorrect pickup spot. If your driver shows up at the wrong hotel, it could take a long time to get to the correct location.
  4. If you have a group of more than 4 people, you must order Uber XL or Lyft XL. A regular Uber or Lyft will not be able to legally fit 5 people in their vehicle. The XL rides can fit up to 6 passengers, so if you have more than 6 people you will need to order two vehicles.

THE NEW BICYCLE-FRIENDLY DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

You’ll notice more bike lanes, especially along transit corridors, that link people to essential services, attractions, and other major areas of the city.

BICYCLES FOR RENT IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

There’s no need to bring your own bike if you’re traveling to Las Vegas. There are several places you can rent a bike for you and your whole family. In fact, the RTC offers a bike share program that allows you to rent a bike from stations throughout the city using a mobile app that is both easy and convenient. Check out more details on the bike share program and other bicycle rental options available downtown.

RTC BIKE SHARE

As mentioned earlier, the RTC has made great strides in transforming Las Vegas into a more bike-friendly city. This effort includes offering bikes for rent at affordable prices to locals and visitors alike. As part of their innovative bike share program, they offer:

RTC DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS BIKE CENTER

If you need a little more than just a bike for your Vegas cycling experience, the RTC Bike Center in downtown is another option. With several different types of bikes for rent, including all-purpose bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and road bikes, you’ll have more to choose from than the bike rental stations. Your rental will also come with a helmet, spare tube, lights, and pump included in the price.

You’ll also have access to lockers, bathrooms, showers, bike equipment, and trained staff who can repair or replace any broken parts. If you’re an experienced cyclist who plans on exploring the city on a more regular basis, you may want to think about investing in their Premium Membership, which includes access to all of the above for a low annual fee of $60.

BIKE BLAST LAS VEGAS

Conveniently located in Downtown Las Vegas, Bike Blast Las Vegas has a wide selection of bikes for rent starting at $59 per day. You can take your pick from some of the most recognized and respected brands from around the globe and know you’re getting a quality bike from professionals. BIKING DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS SAFELY

Safety should always be your priority when biking in Downtown Las Vegas or anywhere else in the city. Here are some safety tips to consider when exploring Sin City by bicycle:

  • Always consider wearing a helmet while riding a bicycle in Las Vegas
  • Minimize any time on the sidewalk and stick to clearly marked bike lanes
  • Always yield to pedestrians and obey the laws of traffic while cycling
  • If there is no bike lane on the street, bike riders may legally use a whole lane on the street
  • Stay alert for opening car doors or cars making a right turn in front of you
  • Remember that buses and trucks have large blind spots and may not see you
  • Watch for buses pulling in and out from street curbs and never attempt to cut them off
  • As per the law, always ride in the same direction of traffic
  • Use hand signals whenever possible, especially in heavy traffic
  • Remember, there should only be one person per bike!

In addition, try to plan out your route ahead of time so you have a clear idea of where you’re going and what streets are best for you and your group. Check out some cycling route maps or use the RTC interactive bike map to help you get to your destination safely.

WHAT TO SEE IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

If you have no particular destination in mind but would still like to bike around Downtown Las Vegas, you may be wondering the best places to go. If you want to stay local, consider visiting:

  • Downtown Las Vegas street art
  • Downtown Container Park
  • The Arts District
  • The Neon Museum
  • The Mob Museum
  • Las Vegas Premium Outlets North

Of course, there is so much more to see and do in Las Vegas, and it really depends on how comfortable you feel biking in the city. You can always venture to other areas of Las Vegas, including The Strip, Summerlin, and Henderson. However, Downtown Las Vegas is a great place to start.

Ocean's 11 (1960 film) poster)

Some people know this as the original Vegas movie. This film features the famous Hollywood “Rat Pack” and essentially put Las Vegas on the map. Vegas had already been around for 30 years as a place to come and gamble and enjoy yourself. However, this film changed everything. Thanks to Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, and the rest of the gang, Vegas became one of the most popular destinations in the U.S.

2. OCEAN’S 11 (2001 REMAKE)

You may be more familiar with the Oceans 11 remake starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and Matt Damon. The Vegas comedy was rebooted in 2001 and met with even more success than the original film. This film featured many different casino scenes, including the famous Bellagio Fountains, as the crew planned an epic Vegas heist.

3. VIVA LAS VEGAS (1964)

This film starred two of the hottest talents of that era—Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret. In fact, Viva Las Vegas was one of the most popular Elvis films ever made. The movie ends at the Little Church of the West, a wedding chapel that is the oldest chapel in Vegas and remains open today.

4. VEGAS VACATION (1997)

The fourth installment of the “Vacation” movies finds the Griswolds in Las Vegas. Several casinos and parts of Downtown Las Vegas are featured in the film. Of course, cousin Eddie is living in the desert outside of Las Vegas at a previous atomic testing site. This was one of the biggest films in the franchise.

5. THE HANGOVER – PARTS I AND III (2009 AND 2013)

The Hangover really captured the party vibe and go-all-out culture that Las Vegas is known for. Four friends head to Sin City for a laid-back bachelor party and, of course, chaos ensues. The comedy is filmed throughout Las Vegas, with many scenes taking place at Caesars Palace. It also has some fantastic shots of The Riviera (now closed) and the downtown area. Part of the movie is filmed at Atomic Liquors, the oldest Vegas bar located in Downtown Las Vegas.

The third installment of the Hangover Films may not be considered a classic or major grossing film, but we do get some cool scenes of Downtown Las Vegas again, including Fremont Street.

6. FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS (1998)
Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas movie poster

This film is a hilarious and introspective look at Las Vegas from the perspective of a hallucinating writer and his lawyer. Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s book of the same name, it’s one that translated well to the big screen and featured some great Las Vegas locations. Starring Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro, you get a glimpse of Fremont Street and the Neon Museum in Downtown Las Vegas, among other Vegas sites.

7. GET HIM TO THE GREEK (2010)
Get him To The Greek poster

If you liked the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you’d love this spin-off movie sequel. Reprising his role as British-rockstar Aldous Snow, Russell Brand takes his costars on a wild goose chase from London to Los Angeles, with a brief stop in Las Vegas in between. You get a good look at Planet Hollywood and the Las Vegas Strip.

8. LEAVING LAS VEGAS (1995)
Leaving Las Vegas poster

As the title may have hinted, Las Vegas has a leading role in this film. Critically acclaimed, Nicholas Cage actually won an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas. The movie also gives another perspective of Las Vegas outside of the glitz and glamour. The gritty backdrop gave the film a dark feel that many people enjoyed.

9. CASINO (1995)
Casino (movie) poster

Casino may be director Martin Scorsese’s best-known film of his career. Robert De Niro plays a mobster running a casino for the mafia in Las Vegas. There are actually multiple casinos you see in the film, including the Riviera and Landmark, which were used to create the fictional Tangiers Casino. It’s safe to say that this one is a cult classic.

10. JASON BOURNE (2016)
Jason Bourne (movie) poster

Matt Damon’s character, Jason Bourne, comes back in epic fashion for the fourth film of the Bourne franchise. In the movie, there is an action-packed chase on the Las Vegas Strip involving several cars and buildings being destroyed. In fact, filmmakers used the soon-to-be-demolished Riviera casino in many of these scenes.

Vegas has so many different filming locations available, so it’s no wonder it’s one of the most sought-after places to create a film. If there is a film that you love or if you’re scouting for a film location for your own project, visiting Las Vegas filming locations may seem like a great idea. Most of the places that have been featured in movies are open locations that you can stop by and see without having to have special tours or pay for any admission.

Downtown Las Vegas has played a pivotal backdrop for many major blockbuster movies, as well as artistic and independent films. The nostalgic and vintage Vegas vibe you’ll find in downtown makes it one of the best places to capture! If you happen to be in the area, be sure to check out Downtown Grand. We have some of the best Downtown Las Vegas restaurants, bars, and art on display in our Gallery Tower, which opened September 2020.

EXPLORING THE ALIEN ATTRACTIONS NEAR LAS VEGAS

PUBLISHED: MARCH 22, 2021 -   Mar 18, 2022

The State of Nevada is known for a lot of things, including the iconic flashing neon lights and casinos of Las Vegas.

The State of Nevada is known for a lot of things, including the iconic flashing neon lights and casinos of Las Vegas. However, there is another draw that brings in visitors from around the globe. The infamous Area 51, Extraterrestrial Highway, and other UFO attractions offer a quirky, fun, and unique experience not far from Las Vegas. If you’re interested in all things alien-related, here are a few spots you should check out.

THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL HIGHWAY

Route 375, also known as the Extraterrestrial Highway, takes you on a drive through the Nevada desert, where there has been an unusally high number of reported alien and UFO activity. It is well-known for remote ghost towns, unconventional roadside attractions, and locations of supposed UFO sightings. This stretch of road goes from Crystal Spring to Tonopah, and you can easily start your trip from Downtown Las Vegas.

E.T. FRESH JERKY

You can’t take a drive down the Extraterrestrial Highway without stopping at E.T. Fresh Jerky for an obligatory road trip snack and some awesome photo opportunities. The life-sized alien mural on the outside of the building is just one of the things you don’t want to miss here.

You’ll find this remote store surprisingly full of people where NV-375 and US-93 meet. Of course, you can get “alien” beef jerky here, but you’ll also find other eclectic souvenirs, snacks, beverages, and gifts. Their selection runs the spectrum from Martian-poop flavored soda to gourmet dried fruit and olives. If anything, they offer clean restrooms and a place to stretch your legs during your Extraterrestrial Highway drive.

ALIEN RESEARCH CENTER

Although the name may give reason to assume this is an official place of scientific research, it’s actually an alien-themed gift shop in Crystal Springs, Nevada. While driving down the Extraterrestrial Highway, you can’t miss this quirky shop with its oversized alien statue and bunker-like building.

This is the place to visit if you’re looking for gifts or souvenirs, including alien backpacks, magnets, t-shirts, hoodies, socks, bottle openers, and more. There is also plenty of Area 51-related artwork and posters that are worthy of taking some pictures.

Another interesting fact about the Alien Research Center is that they claim to have nearly 50 UFO sightings in the skies just above the store since 2006. Just one more reason for alien-lovers to swing by for a visit!

AREA 51

Area 51 in Nevada is one of the most concealed, protected, and secretive places in the world. It is believed by many to be the government’s covert operations surrounding anything related to alien life and extraterrestrial visitations. In 1955, it was thought to be where the government was hiding an alien spaceship, which was why the base was so heavily guarded. However, to this day, the claim is the aircraft that crashed near there was a weather balloon.

It’s important to note that Area 51 is an active military base and is not open to the public. In fact, you can’t even take pictures of the outside of Area 51, let alone enter the property. Still, it’s interesting to get close to the site and see the alien-related attractions nearby.

LITTLE A’LE’INN (RACHEL, NV)

Rachel, Nevada, is a tiny town with a population count of less than 100, if you can believe it. It’s also home to Little A’Le’Inn, a charming motel and bar that pays homage to extraterrestrials and everything else unworldly. Their bar/diner, in particular, is well worth a visit for its alien paraphernalia and photos, generously-poured drinks, and stories shared by long-time servers and bartenders.

You’ll find great backdrops for photos here, along with a remote ghost town vibe that makes you question whether you’re actually just a short drive from Vegas.

TONOPAH STAR GAZING

Tonapah is a former silver mining town in Nevada that is about a three-hour drive from Las Vegas. There is plenty to see in this town, including the Tonapah Historic Mining Park, the Victorian-style Mizpah Hotel, and Central Nevada Museum, but many people choose to visit Tonapah for its star-gazing reputation.

Tonapah has some of the darkest skies you’ll find in Nevada, away from the lights and distractions of the city. After nightfall, you can clearly see thousands of stars, planets, constellations, and the Milky Way without needing a telescope.

For alien enthusiasts, this is a top-rated spot to search for UFOs or any other unusual activities in the heavens. If you decide to make the drive out to Tonopah in pursuit of extraterrestrial sightings, try to plan it on a moonless night for the most visibility.

ALIENSTOCK FESTIVAL

Alientstock in Rachel, NV, just outside of Area 51, actually started from a viral Facebook event. A group of alien conspiracy theorists decided to join together to storm Area 51 to get to the truth behind the secrecy. However, it eventually evolved from the “Storm Area 51” efforts to become an alien-themed music festival in the desert.

Drawing about 3,000 people in 2019, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal1, the three-day festival was a success. Although there were plans to hold the festival again in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on future dates. Alienstock 2021 tour dates have not yet been released.

If you’re heading to Las Vegas and are looking for unique things to do, some of these nearby alien attractions could be the perfect thing to take you off the beaten path. Downtown Grand in Downtown Las Vegas has everything you need to make your trip comfortable, affordable, and one to remember. PUBLISHED: JANUARY 3, 2020 -   Mar 18, 2022

With recent revitalization efforts and a cultural resurgence in Downtown Las Vegas, the area now boasts colorful street art, murals, and hidden artistic gems you won’t find in any other part of the city.

With recent revitalization efforts and a cultural resurgence in Downtown Las Vegas, the area now boasts colorful street art, murals, and hidden artistic gems you won’t find in any other part of the city. And many of the most interesting pieces are within walking distance of Downtown Grand!

Here’s a comprehensive guide on where you can find the best street art in Downtown Las Vegas:

“FEAR NO FATE” BY TRISTAN EATON

Found on Fremont Street between 6th Street and 7th Street, Eaton’s homage to vintage Las Vegas can be found on one of the walls of the El Cortez parking garage. The mural features a Sin City showgirl in profile wearing a classic headpiece that exudes nostalgia from top to bottom. The showgirl’s headpiece comes alive with feathers, casino chips, dice, and a hint of the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign in tones of reds and yellows.

“THE CYCLE OF CIVILIZATION” BY ZIO ZIEGLER

Occupying the corner of 7th Street and Ogden in Downtown Las Vegas, Zio Ziegler designed this intricate mural for the first Life is Beautiful Festival in 2013. Only minutes from the Downtown Las Vegas casinos, it’s a beautiful piece of art that will take you away from the bustling crowds for a slightly different perspective of the city. With black and white details against a vibrant blue background, it makes for the perfect photo opportunity.

“LOVE FOREVER” BY D* FACE

If you’re a fan of D* Face, all you have to do is take one look at this mural to know which artist is behind it. Using his signature comic book effects, this mural depicts a woman in distress with her face morphing from classic beauty to a sunken skull. This mural is provocative, sexual, and makes for a great downtown photo. You can find this 2014 Life is Beautiful piece at 700 Fremont Street.
“PEACEMAKER” BY D* FACE
Another eye-catching Downtown Las Vegas mural by D* Face can be found at 899 Fremont Street between 8th Street and 9th Street. The strong message behind this piece is evident with a revolver handgun shooting out the word “peace” in gold lettering. This mural was created for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Music Festival.

“FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS” BY RUBEN SANCHEZ

This mural by Ruben Sanchez is painted using an eye-catching cubist style. It depicts the main character and writer of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson, as he makes his way through Sin City in a drug-induced haze. Initially created for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Music Festival, it’s one of the most popular murals to photograph in Downtown Las Vegas. Find it at 107 S. Las Vegas Blvd.

“THE MEANING” BY PIXEL PANCHO

Italian artist, Pixel Pancho, designed this mural for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Music Festival. He is known for using signature robot imagery to capture meaningful and provocative messages, and this piece of art is no exception. As explained by the artist, the two robots in the mural are meant to provoke thoughts about our society’s obsession with wasteful spending and not taking into account the effects on the planet. Take a look for yourself at 700 Fremont Street.

“CORPORATE WELFARE” BY SHEPARD FAIREY

Right on the corner of Fremont Street and 6th Street, this stunning mural was painted by Shepard Fairey for the 2016 Life is Beautiful Music Festival. You may recognize his name for his famous “Hope” poster designed for Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. His red, black, and beige “Corporate Welfare” mural can be found on the side of the Emergency Arts Building. It strives to provoke thoughts on corporations and the government’s welfare system with the statement, “Be a Maker, Not a Taker.”

MURAL BY FAFI

This 2016 Life is Beautiful piece by Fafi is also on the Emergency Arts Building on the front. The French artist features powerful female characters displaying expressions of confidence, toughness, and strength. The women are painted in Fafi’s trademark Fafinette style that is immediately recognizable if you’re a fan of her work.

“HORNED TOAD” BY ROA

As many of the murals in Downtown Las Vegas, this piece created by ROA was originally designed for the Life is Beautiful Music Festival. The incredibly detailed lizard stretches across the building wall found at 598 Steward Ave. The scaley creature is monochromatic except for the red blood shooting from its yellow eye. The artist explained this phenomenon is a protection mechanism for horned toad lizards when feeling threatened. The predator becomes frightened by the unexpected stream of blood. Something to think about when admiring this piece.

“FULL MOON” BY ANA MARIA ORTIZ

Puerto Rican artist, Ana Maria Ortiz, brings her ethereal and soft touch to this Downtown Las Vegas mural. Originally painted for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Music Festival, the emotive piece depicts three birds, a hybrid-looking rabbit, octopus tentacles wrapping around tall grass, and a beautiful full moon in the background. You can find this mural at 209 North 7th Street.

DOUBLE MURAL BY MARTIN WHATSON

The corner of the parking garage on Stewart between 7th and 8th Streets is covered with stunning artwork by Norwegian artist, Martin Whatson. The two murals stretch four stories tall with a combined message of graffiti as artistic expression. One side features a man seemingly adding to a wall already full of graffiti. On the other side, the graffiti wall continues but appears to be partially covered by a concrete-colored material. A hand is carefully pulling back the material to uncover the colorful graffiti underneath. The two murals meet at the corner of the building.

This list only scratches the surface when it comes to all the amazing artwork you’ll find in the streets of Downtown Las Vegas. Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino is only minutes from most of these murals, so it’s the perfect place to take a break from your downtown art adventures. Pop into Triple George Grill for a nostalgic steak dinner and cocktail, or swing by Freedom Beat to sample Chef Scott Commings’ comfort food menu. Either way, Downtown Grand offers the most authentic Las Vegas experience you won’t find on the Strip.

You can also head on over to Pizza Rock for the perfect combo of breakfast and lunch. Try the double sausage and eggs pizza for a uniquely delicious brunch option. Otherwise, sample the many delicious brunch items on their menu, ranging from meatballs and hash to focaccia French toast.

If you want an entirely different take on savory brunch, try Makers & Finders. This local coffee spot serves a Latin-inspired brunch. Have an empanada and a strong cup of coffee to start your day on the right foot.

Check out 11 fun activities to experience a different side of Sin City and hit the jackpot on what Downtown Las Vegas has to offer.

1. RIDE SLOTZILLA ZIPLINE ON FREMONT STREET

Only in Downtown Vegas can you zipline from a 12-story slot machine with a name like “SlotZilla”! Take a ride beneath the famous Fremont Street canopy, high above the strolling visitors. Thrill-seekers can ride 114 feet high in a head-first position or 77 feet high in a seated position. Either way, it’s a real adrenaline rush and probably something you didn’t have on your agenda. It’s only a couple of blocks from Downtown Grand, so you’re not far from all the action.

Touch, feed and snorkel with reef sharks and stingrays. Walk through lush rainforest environments to marvel at the wildlife. Desert wildlife is represented, too, and kids love the aqua petting pond. You’ll find Seaquest just a few miles from Downtown Las Vegas.

3. PICK YOUR OWN PRODUCE AT GILCREASE ORCHARD

Farming and fresh produce don’t usually come to mind when you envision Las Vegas, so this unexpected activity is that “wholesome” kind of wild. Why not? Against all odds, the Gilcrease family created Gilcrease Orchard as a successful multi-generational farming venture with roots in Vegas going back to 1920—and only a quick drive from Downtown Las Vegas. Bring your friends or family to this local treasure and pick your own produce. It’s a wonderful experience to get away from the crowded city streets and flashing lights for a few hours.

4. CHECK OUT THE GILCREASE NATURE SANCTUARY

Speaking of the Gilcrease legacy in Las Vegas, this is also the family behind the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, which is home to several types of exotic birds and farm animals. Many of these animals were abandoned or turned in when owners could no longer care for them. Visitors get to see and learn about these animals—and maybe even interact with some of them! You’ll find Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary only about 20 minutes from Downtown Las Vegas, just next to Gilcrease Orchard.

5. DRIVE AN EXOTIC CAR AROUND A RACETRACK

Experience life in the fast lane in your favorite fantasy ride: Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, McLaren and anything else you can dream up. They also have the world’s only pintle-mounted multi-barrel machine gun — The Quadzilla — that shoots over 1,400 round per minute! Not only does all this await you at the range, but they pick you right up at and drop you back off at your downtown Las Vegas hotel! Just remember though, you must be sober, sane and not pregnant to put some rounds down range — safety first!

CREEPY AND SPOOKY THINGS IN NEVADA TO VISIT

PUBLISHED: SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 -   Mar 18, 2022

Las Vegas is generally known for high-end resorts, hotels, casinos, shows, and restaurants—but there’s actually a lot more to Nevada.

Las Vegas is generally known for high-end resorts, hotels, casinos, shows, and restaurants—but there’s actually a lot more to Nevada. Not only can you check out these Sin City staples if you’re planning a trip to the area, but there are also some spooky, creepy, and fun places you can visit in Nevada if you’re looking for a different type of adventure.

Next time you head to Nevada, here’s a list of some of the most visited attractions in Las Vegas and other parts of the state that have a haunted history. Check it out!

ZAK BAGANS’ THE HAUNTED MUSEUM

If you’re looking for something spooky while you’re in town, Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum in Downtown Las Vegas should be at the very top of your list! You won’t find such a diverse collection of creepy and supernatural items in one place anywhere else in Nevada—and maybe even the country.

The museum is home to paranormal items, including Dr. Jack Kevorkian’s VW death van, Michael Jackson’s “propofol” chair, Charles Manson’s bone fragments, and hundreds of more artifacts that are sure to give you goosebumps. Be sure to schedule a tour for the full experience.

CHARLESTON TUNNELS IN LAS VEGAS

There is an area near Sandhill Road and Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas that houses a series of flood control tunnels for the surrounding Southern Nevada neighborhoods. While you’ll need to be careful of flood warnings in this area, you can take a walk past the Charleston Tunnels during the evening hours to see if you hear some of the whispers that many people have reported!

There may also be a sighting of the couple that died in a motorcycle crash when the tunnels were originally being built. Rumor has it that they didn’t know about the construction, and they crashed their motorcycle into debris while passing by.

THE MIZPAH HOTEL IN TONOPAH

A few hours north of Las Vegas is the little town of Tonopah, where the Mizpah Hotel was constructed back in 1907. Of course, when something is this old, there’s bound to be some stories connected to it. The Mizpah is no exception.

Many years ago, there was a lot of prostitution activity at the hotel in Tonopah. Some of these women of the night are said to still haunt the hotel, including the infamous “Lady in Red.” She enjoys when men come to visit, and she’s been known to pay particular attention to them when they’re visiting the hotel. Also, a ghost of a miner has been spotted at The Mizpah. Enter if you dare!

THE YELLOW JACKET MINE IN SILVER CITY

If you find yourself even further north of Las Vegas in Virginia City, NV, you’ll find the Yellow Hacket Mine there. A fire took place at the mine in 1869 that resulted in over 35 miners losing their lives. Not all of the bodies were able to be recovered, and it’s said that those 11 spirits have since haunted the mine.

If anything, you’ll be able to see a ton of historic parts of Nevada, including some old mining equipment and empty buildings in ghost towns that were abandoned long ago.

THE LIBERACE MUSEUM COLLECTION

The Liberace Museum Collection where the museum once stood is a great place to visit if you’re interested in learning more about the history of Liberace. But this is also a great place to stop by if you’re hoping to spot a ghost. There was a period of time when a lot of renovations were being completed. Many of the workers reported seeing a shadowy figure move through the areas where they were working.

While that spirit may simply have been keeping an eye on the work being done and is still watching over things today, it’s said that you might also spot Liberace’s sister-in-law, or even Liberace himself!

HAUNTED CEMETERIES

There are two very old and very spooky cemeteries that exist in Nevada, with plenty of paranormal activity being reported over the years. Located on an old ghost town burial ground, the Bullfrog Rhyolite Cemetery is a favorite spot for both experienced and novice ghost hunters.

Also, don’t forget to stop by the cemetery that’s located in Goldfield, NV. The town has a rich history, and its cemetery is high on the paranormal scale. You’ll see headstones that are more than 100 years old! Additionally, you’ll come across noteworthy graves that include cause-of-death inscriptions like, “Gunshot” and “Eating Library Paste.” True? We’ll leave that up to you to decide.

THE HOOVER DAM

We can easily say that safety regulations related to construction were not as strict when the Hoover Dam was being built back in 1935. During the dam’s construction, 112 people lost their lives in accidents directly connected to the operation, while dozens more died from illnesses.

There have been numerous reports of paranormal activity at Hoover Dam, mainly connected to the people who were said to have fallen into the concrete as it was poured, and are forever trapped in the dam itself! Although much of the concrete story is an urban legend, you can check it out for yourself. Hoover Dam is only about 45 minutes from Las Vegas and guided tours are available daily.

HALLOWEEN IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

The next time you’re planning a visit to Las Vegas, try to work some haunted houses & history into your plans. Halloween is a great time to stop by some of these spooky attractions as well as step up your costume game by partying in downtown.

Downtown Grand is just blocks away from the world-famous Fremont Street, which hosts the biggest Halloween bash in Vegas! You’ll also be close to all the Downtown Las Vegas restaurants, bars, new street art from the Life is Beautiful Music Festival, and the best table games and sports betting in Sin City. EARLY DAYS OF THE NFR

The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) established the NFR in 1958 as a way to determine the undisputed champion in the most popular rodeo events every year. The original seven events were calf roping, steer wrestling, steer roping, team roping, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, and bareback bronc riding. The top 15 professionals in each event are invited to compete for the world championship title.

Dallas hosted the first NFR in 1959 and continued to host the event until 1961. For the next two years, Los Angeles hosted the rodeo competition before it moved to Oklahoma City in 1965 at State Fair Arena. For the next 20 years, Oklahoma City was home to the NFR, bringing in thousands of fans every year to cheer on their favorite cowboys and enjoy the competition.

THE NFR MAKES A MOVE

In 1984, the City of Las Vegas entered a bid to become the host city for the NFR. Needless to say, it was a tough pitch with the rodeo competition being held in Oklahoma City for so long. Las Vegas casino developer, Benny Binion, and the Las Vegas Events president, Herb McDonald, drove the initiative to bring the NFR to Sin City with McDonald guaranteeing a prize fund of $1.8 million to the winning cowboys.

Both McDonald and the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce presented their arguments to the PRCA Board of Directors before they made their final vote in December 1984. Unfortunately, the outcome was a tie vote with five against five, and the fate of the NFR was still undecided.

The president of the PRCA in 1984, Shawn Davis, was given the final vote to decide where the NFR would be held the following year. As a member of the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and with a substantial rodeo career under his belt, others expected him to vote for the traditional cowboy town of Oklahoma City. However, he cast his vote for Las Vegas, and the rest is history!

WELCOME TO FABULOUS LAS VEGAS

In 1985, Las Vegas hosted its first NFR championship competition. Back then, it was a very different city than what you see today, with a population of only 590,000 people! Compare that to today’s 1.7 million Sin City locals and you can get an idea of how much Las Vegas has grown and evolved since then. However, one constant remains, for more than three decades, Las Vegas still hosts the NFR every year during the first full week of December.

With thousands of cowboys flocking to Las Vegas every December for the NFR, many of the Las Vegas casinos feature the live rodeo events in their sportsbooks and bars. Downtown Las Vegas even hosts an annual Downtown Hoedown on Fremont Street to kick off the rodeo with free live performances by some of country music’s biggest artists. If you happen to be in Las Vegas during the NFR, you’ll find a rodeo celebration just about everywhere you turn.

THE NFR COMPETITION STRUCTURE

The NFR goes for 10 consecutive days with each day featuring a competition (referred to as a “go-round”) in each event. Every competition has its own prizes, but there is also a separate set of prizes for the best overall scores in each event over the 10 days of competition (referred to as “the average”). This means cowboys can win a prize for a single competition and also win for having the highest overall score in that category during the entire NFR run that year.

Prize payouts depend on the total prize pool for that year. The NFR continues to break earnings records year after year with the total NFR prize purse for 2019 at $10 million! Overall, the PCRA has awarded more than $182 million to cowboy competitors throughout NFR history.

NOTABLE NFR EVENTS THROUGHOUT ITS HISTORY

HOW TO PLAY CRAPS: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

PUBLISHED: MARCH 28, 2019 -   Mar 18, 2022

If you’ve ever walked through a casino, there’s no doubt you’ve heard the high-energy cheering and high-fiving happening around a craps table.

If you’ve ever walked through a casino, there’s no doubt you’ve heard the high-energy cheering and high-fiving happening around a craps table. Maybe you’ve wanted to get in on the action, but you’ve never played craps before. For inexperienced gamblers, craps may seem a little confusing and even a bit intimidating, so we’ve put together a simple guide which shares everything you need to know about playing this exciting table game in Downtown Las Vegas!

CRAPS – WHERE TO START
The first thing we should mention is playing craps is a lot easier than you might think. Looking down at the betting table may seem like the opposite, but most players pick it up very quickly. Here are some basics you should know before walking up to the table:

  • Dice – Two six-sided dice are used to play craps. The players bet on the total of the two numbers that land face up after rolling, not on each individual dice.
  • Chips – Chips are used to place bets. To buy chips, just let the dealer know before placing your cash on the table between rolls.
  • The Shooter – The player rolling the dice is referred to as the shooter. Once the shooter “sevens out,” the dice rotate to the next shooter. (Don’t worry – we’ll explain all this below.)
  • Casino Personnel – At a live craps table in a casino, you will generally have two dealers, a stickman, and a boxman around the table.
  • The next thing you should familiarize yourself with is betting. We’ll go over the details of craps betting basics below.

CRAPS BETTING BASICS – THE PASS LINE BET

To begin, find a spot along the long table, ask the dealer for change, and drop your cash on the table where there are no numbers. The dealer will then change your cash for chips and you can begin betting before the shooter’s next roll.

To place a bet, check the table minimum then place that amount on the pass line. On the come-out roll, or the new shooter’s first roll, the pass line wins on 7 or 11 and will lose if the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12. Any other roll total (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) becomes the shooter’s point. All the other players at the table will need the point to be rolled again before the shooter rolls a 7 in order to win on the pass line. Basically, the shooter must roll the point to win and loses after rolling a 7 when betting on the pass line. The dice then move on to the next player.

To recap, here’s what you can expect after a come-out roll with a pass line bet:

  • The shooter rolls 7 or 11, pass line bets win
  • The Shooter rolls 2, 3 or 12, pass line bets lose
  • The shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, pass line bets wait and that number becomes the “point”
  • Once the point is established, the following rules apply to pass line bets:
  • Pass line bets win if the shooter rolls the point again
  • Pass line bets lose if the shooter rolls a 7
  • Dice rotate to the next shooter after the current shooter rolls a 7

WHEN YOU ARE THE SHOOTER

If you happen to be the next shooter, the stickman will offer you a number of dice to choose from. The first thing you do is pick two dice from the selection, then the stickman will take the remaining dice off the table. Do not remove the dice from the table or hide them from the dealer. Make sure your hands are empty and, if you have a drink, put it down while you are rolling.

Once bets are placed and you have the table, take the dice underhanded and throw them sideways onto the table. You want to make sure they strike the back wall of the table and bounce back. The dealer will announce the dice total and, depending on that number, the stickman will either collect the dice and deliver them back to you to roll again, or move on to the next shooter if you rolled a losing number.

The pass line betting basics apply to you as the shooter, so your goal with your come-out roll is to roll a 7 or 11 to win. If you roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes your point and you want to try and roll that number again. If our come-out roll results in a 2, 3 or 12, you lose and the dice pass to the next player.

Every bet on the table is in action no matter which player is the shooter, but here are the basics to keep in mind when you’re shooting:

  • If you roll a 7 or 11 on your come-out roll, you win
  • If our come-out roll results in a 2, 3 or 12, you lose
  • If you roll a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, that becomes your point
  • You continue to roll if you win the point
  • You lose if you roll a 7 after the point is established

OTHER BETTING OPTIONS

Some players will choose to bet against the shooter rather than with the shooter. This bet is placed on the don’t pass line rather than the pass line. When players place a don’t pass line bet, they are known as “wrong” players because they are betting against the shooter. The way to win is pretty much opposite of a pass line bet, so a 7 or 11 loses and a 2 or 3 wins. If the shooter rolls a 12, a don’t pass line bet is a push, or the initial bet is returned with no wins or losses.

Once you become more comfortable with the basics of craps betting, you may want to try different odds bets and multiple rolls bets. The casino has no edge at all with odds bets, but there are no boxes or instructions, so make sure you understand these different types of bets before trying it out.

With multiple rolls bets, including the Big 6 and 8, Hard Way Bets, Buy Bets, Come Bets and Put Bets. Single Rolls Bets include Horn Bets and Hopping Hard Ways, the edge of the casino is greater than the player.

CASINOS & HOTELS IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS VS. “THE STRIP”

PUBLISHED: DECEMBER 27, 2018 -   Mar 18, 2022

Downtown Las Vegas offers several advantages to the Strip, especially when it comes to casino gaming action.

Downtown Las Vegas offers several advantages to the Strip, especially when it comes to casino gaming action. If you’re hoping to escape the tourist crowds and high-limit tables on the Strip, Downtown Las Vegas is the perfect location for an action-packed Vegas vacation! Along with playing in downtown, more and more people are choosing to stay in Downtown Las Vegas rather than the overpriced resorts on the Strip, and it’s easy to see why.

Here are some of the perks you can expect when you stay and play in Downtown Las Vegas.

STAYING IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

Downtown Las Vegas is undoubtedly a unique part of Sin City. Many Las Vegas visitors have only stayed on the Strip or really don’t know much about the downtown area. However, more and more people are choosing to stay in Downtown Las Vegas rather than the overpriced resorts on the Strip, and it’s easy to see why. Here are some of the perks you can expect when you stay in Downtown Las Vegas.

REASONABLE PRICES COMPARED TO LAS VEGAS STRIP

One of the biggest reasons people choose to stay downtown is the affordability aspect of the area. When compared to the Strip, Downtown Las Vegas hotel room rates, table limits, drink prices, and transportation costs are considerably lower. There’s a reason you always see visitors in downtown with drinks in hand! No expensive upcharges or outrageous drink prices here.

If you’re visiting Las Vegas on a budget, DTLV can deliver all the glitz and glamour you’d expect from Sin City, without the harsh prices you find on the Strip. Although many of the Fremont Street resorts have been remodeled and revitalized in recent years, the affordability and vintage charm of the area remains, making it one of the most attractive places to stay for many tourists.

ECLECTIC CROWDS OF LOCALS AND TOURISTS

Downtown Las Vegas provides such an interesting mix of people from all walks of life. You will see rowdy crowds of young people bar hopping on Fremont Street, but also couples spending a romantic weekend together, retirees gambling in the casinos, and Las Vegas locals enjoying a night out. Because there’s so much to do and see in Downtown Las Vegas, the area attracts people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Las Vegas Strip tends to pull in the biggest tourist crowds, which can be stressful or overwhelming for some visitors. Downtown offers a more intimate environment without the massive tourist crowds you’d typically find on the Strip. You’ll also have a chance to mingle with some Las Vegas locals and get the inside scoop on the best places to visit during your trip from the people who know it best.

MORE FREE ENTERTAINMENT OPTIONS

Free entertainment used to be a staple in Las Vegas, but times have changed for the major resorts and casinos on the Strip. Watching a show or enjoying a concert can often be the most expensive part of your trip these days! However, Downtown Las Vegas has held tightly to the classic Las Vegas ideas of affordable prices and unique entertainment.

Downtown Las Vegas features free concerts, DJs, and performances throughout the year, so there’s no need to spend big bucks for entertainment. In addition, many of the casinos on Fremont Street, including Downtown Grand, host major events, festivals, and parties that are open to the public for a low entrance fee. You can enjoy drink specials and free nightly entertainment without ever having to leave the downtown area!

NO NEED TO PAY FOR TRANSPORTATION

The convenience of Downtown Las Vegas is one of the major perks of this area. All the major casinos, restaurants, bars, and attractions are so close to each other that it’s rare that you’ll need to drive or use a ride-sharing service to get around. You can simply walk from place to place without the worry of having to find a parking spot or paying hefty parking fees.

Fremont adds to the convenience by being closed to traffic where the casinos line the street. So once you step outside the Downtown Grand doors, there’s more room for pedestrians to walk up and down Fremont and quickly get to where they’re going, even if there are large crowds on the street. If you’re trying to avoid having a car while you’re visiting Las Vegas, your best bet is to stay in downtown.

MORE CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS COMPARED TO THE STRIP

The variety of cultural attractions offered and things to do in Downtown Las Vegas is hard to find anywhere else. From museums to art galleries, music festivals to Broadway shows, Downtown Las Vegas is where to go if you want to experience a more creative vibe of the city. The Las Vegas Arts District is located just outside of Fremont Street and hosts a monthly First Friday arts festival for people to enjoy live music, food trucks, performances, and of course, featured artwork.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is the cultural hub of the city located right in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. This venue hosts plays, musicals, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Nevada Ballet Theater, and so much more. Aside from the parties and crowds in Downtown Las Vegas, this area is such an essential part of the city’s growing art scene.

If you’re on the fence on where to stay during your next trip to Las Vegas, it’s time to take another look at downtown. Nobody throws a party quite like Downtown Las Vegas, and you’re truly missing out if you haven’t experienced the vibrancy, excitement, and charm of this part of town. It’s all happening at Downtown Grand, so contact us today to learn more about our upgraded accommodations, the Citrus Grand Pool Deck on our rooftop, world-renowned restaurants and casino floor, and exceptional customer service.

PLAYING IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS
LOOKING FOR “OLD VEGAS”? DOWNTOWN HAS YOU COVERED

Las Vegans think of it more like “Vintage Vegas” than “Old Vegas” since there is much history to be seen, but the views are anything but old. The legend of Las Vegas was built on high-energy gambling, strong drinks, and affordable entertainment. Unfortunately, many of the mega-resort casinos on the Strip have moved away from what made Sin City famous from the start. It’s easy to feel like you’re in an over-sized shopping mall rather than a Las Vegas casino when you’re on the Strip.

Downtown Las Vegas, on the other hand, gives you that classic Vegas vibe and aesthetic with lively casino floors, welcoming bartenders, and a thriving atmosphere that revolves around Vegas’ true roots: gambling. We have some of the original attractions that made Las Vegas a known destination.

The Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino is the perfect example of this. Located in what was once the Lady Luck Casino, the Downtown Grand is a modern adaptation to that vintage “Vegas feel” that separates this town from other gaming destinations.

A MORE INTIMATE GAMBLING EXPERIENCE IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

With thousands of slots and hundreds of table games on the Strip, you can feel less like a guest and more like a number. It can be an intimidating situation, especially if you’re new to gambling or are trying your luck on a different game. Even for seasoned veteran gamblers, the echoing crowds can be a distraction and take away from the experience.

Downtown Las Vegas casinos offer a more personalized gaming experience with more intimate casino tables, a fun mix of Vegas locals and out-of-town thrill-seekers, and the best gamblings perks including free play, hotel discounts, dining offers, and free drinks while playing. With our completely remodeled casino floor, Downtown Grand will immerse you in the excitement of all the gaming action without feeling like just a face in the crowd.

Our friendly, engaging dealers take pride in providing the best in dealer hospitality and hosting exciting card and table games, which can really transform your overall gaming experience. Downtown Las Vegas is known for delivering the most energetic casino environments, and Downtown Grand is no exception.

STRETCH YOUR BANKROLL WITH LOWER TABLE LIMITS

One downside to the behemoth casinos of the Strip is their high table limits. With minimums at games such as blackjack and roulette as high as $25, you could quickly burn through your entire Vegas budget after just a couple hours of play.

To get full casino action for your money, consider the casinos of Downtown Las Vegas. At Downtown Grand, we have table limits as low as $5 a hand. Our slot machines are also a gamer’s delight with penny and nickel slots still available for play on our casino floor.

In addition, payouts in Downtown Las Vegas are more favorable for gamblers. In general, our slot machines are looser and table games provide better odds than most of the casinos offering the same games on the Strip.

DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS OFFERS BETTER ODDS AND PAYOUTS

Many blackjack tables in Downtown Las Vegas still pay 3:2 on 21, instead of the 6:5 typically offered at the Strip casinos. Odds like 5x, 10x, or even 20x on craps tables are also available in Downtown Las Vegas casinos. This makes a huge impact on the house’s edge and your ability to hit the big bucks. Learn more about the table games at the Downtown Grand.

On our casino floor, we have 11 blackjack tables, all paying 3:2 on 21. We have buy-in minimums as low as $5 and you can even make side bets such as Buster Blackjack or King’s Bounty Blackjack.

If you are a fan of table poker, we have you covered: Downtown Grand offers Three-Card Poker and Ultimate Texas Hold’em, both with low $5/hand minimums. We also offer exciting Pai Gow poker with a $10 minimum bet.

EXPANSIVE GAMING VARIETY IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS

While Downtown Las Vegas may not have the overwhelming scale of the Las Vegas Strip, it does offer all the casino games you know and love! And if you’re looking for gambling variety, downtown casinos are proud to offer a wide variety of slots and table gaming options.

Downtown Grand alone has over 500 slot machines on our casino floor. These include classics such as Buffalo, Hot Roll, and Quick Hits, as well as newer games such as The Big Bang Theory®, Buffalo Stampede, Batman®, and The Flintstones®. If you enjoy video poker, we have both Super Star Poker and Ultimate X Poker machines on our casino floor as well.

In addition, we offer two tables of American-style roulette, two high-energy craps tables, competitive Texas Hold ‘Em, Three Card, and Pai Gow poker games, and multiple blackjack tables to choose from. Downtown Grand also hosts blackjack tournaments throughout the year.

FOR YOUR NEXT TRIP TO VEGAS, SKIP THE STRIP AND HEAD TO DOWNTOWN GRAND

The next time you’re thinking about a trip to Las Vegas, consider staying (and playing) in Downtown Las Vegas. At the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino, you can get an intimate, engaging casino gaming experience plus all the perks of our Grand Rewards program! Join our three-tiered rewards program today for your chance to earn free slot play, exclusive discounts at our restaurants, and free upgrades at our revamped hotel.

HOW TO PLAY PAI GOW POKER: THE ULTIMATE GUIDE

Pai Gow Poker is one of the most popular casino games around. Pai Gow is a slower-paced game when compared to other casino games such as Blackjack or Craps and is a great option for when you are in the mood to sit back, relax, and have a few drinks at the table with some friends. Although Pai Gow may look a bit intimidating, the game is rather simple.

Note: Downtown Grand currently does not offer Pai Gow Poker on the casino floor, but hopes to again soon!

THE DEAL

After the player makes their bet, the dealer and the player are both dealt 7 cards which are used to make a five-card Poker hand and a two-card Poker hand. After receiving their 7 cards, the player makes both of their five-card and two-card hands and places them face down on the table. Once the cards are placed, the dealer flips over their 7 cards and makes both of their hands. If both of the players’ hands beat the dealers’ the player wins, if only one hand wins, it’s a push, and if both of the dealers’ hands beat the players’, the player loses. Pai Gow Poker follows Standard Poker hand rankings. The two-card hand is often referred to as “Up top” and the five-card hand is referred to as “Down bottom”. This is because players place their two-card hand above their five-card hand on the table when they have decided on how to play them. In the event of a tie, for example, if the player and dealer both have an Ace and 10 up top, and the dealer’s five-card hand is higher than the players, the dealer would win the overall hand.

When making the five and two-card Poker hands, there is one very important rule to remember: The five-card hand must be stronger than the two-card hand. (Otherwise, players could always go for a push by making a very strong two-card hand). This rule is important because if you play your hand incorrectly, the hand could be declared dead. If the hand is declared dead, the player automatically loses, so if you are unsure if you are playing your hand correctly always ask the dealer for clarification. Let’s look at an example Pai Gow Poker hand:

Player’s cards: K♠8♠A♠K♦8♦3♦6♠

This player has been dealt a good hand. We have a pair of Kings, a pair of 8s, and an Ace. This hand can be played in two different ways, with a pair of 8s as the two-card hand and the pair of Kings and remaining cards as the five-card hand, or with the Ace and Six as the two-card hand and the Kings and 8s in the five-card hand, making two pair. The most optimal way to play a hand is not always clear, but don’t worry, because you can always ask the dealer how to play your cards! If you are unsure how to play your hand, simply ask the dealer for the “House Way” and they will let you know the most optimal strategy for playing your cards (House way is how the dealer would play the same cards). In our example, the House Way would be:

8♦8♠
K♠K♦A♠6♣3♦

In this case, it is optimal to play the pair of 8s as the two-card hand and the pair of Kings as the five-card hand, as opposed to playing A♠6♣ on the top and two pair on the bottom. This is the most optimal play because having a pair as the two-card hand is always strong, especially a mid-range pair such as 88. With a pair up top, there is a good chance the player will at least push, if not win the hand outright. Now that we have our two hands set, let’s see what the dealer has:

9♦5♥K♣6♥9♥7♦4♦

The dealer’s two hands would be:

K♣7♦
9♦9♥6♥5♥ 4♦

The dealer has King High up top and a pair of 9s down bottom. When compared to the player’s hand, we have:

K♣7♦ vs. 8♦8♠

The player wins the two-card hand with a pair of 8s, and for the five-card hands we have:

9♦9♥5♥ 6♥4♦ vs. K♠ K♦ A♠6♣3♦

The player wins the five-card hand with a pair of Kings vs. a pair of 9s. Since the player has won the two-card hand and the five-card hand, the player wins their bet!

COMMISSION

In most Pai Gow games, when a player wins a hand, the casino charges a 5% commission on their bet, so a winning bet of $100 would return $95 profit.

THE JOKER

Most Pai Gow games found in casinos have one Joker in the deck. However, the Joker is not a full wild card as it is in many other forms of Poker. The Joker in Pai Gow can only be used to complete a straight or a flush, if it is not used to complete either of these hands, the Joker will always be an Ace. If the Joker is played as an Ace it is often used as the high card in the two-card hand, or to pair with another Ace.

It certainly captures the essence of vintage Las Vegas and brings a little piece of that era back. Check out some dance schools in Las Vegas offering ballroom dancing sessions, including Summerlin Dance Academy, Rhythms Dance Studio, and the Fred Astaire Dance Studio. It’s a unique way to spend some time with a loved one or friend in Las Vegas before returning to your Sin City mischief.

CRAFT BEER TASTING IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS
Downtown Las Vegas has experienced a boom in craft beer breweries and is the best place to go for local beer tastings. Banger Brewing on Fremont Street offers some of the best selections of Vegas-brewed beer, including IPAs, dark malts, refreshing wheat beers, and creative flavors infused with roasted jalapenos, coffee, hazelnut, oatmeal, and bourbon.

Tenaya Creek Brewery is another local spot in downtown that features an amazing tasting room and menu. Also check out Hop Nuts Brewing, Able Baker Brewing, CraftHaus Brewery, and Three Sheets Craft Beer Bar for excellent beer tasting options.

OAK & IVY WHISKEY TASTING AT DOWNTOWN CONTAINER PARK
If you’re a whiskey fan, you can’t pass up a tasting at Oak & Ivy in Downtown Las Vegas. The Container Park rooftop bar boasts some of the best bourbon, Scotch, rye, and other whiskey selections you’ll find in Las Vegas, along with creative craft cocktails, beers, and wines. The award-winning tasting menu runs the gamut and will give your palette a complete tour of the international whiskey scene.

If you’re with a group of people, be sure to make a reservation. In fact, you can even buy out the entire bar if you happen to have a group of 40 or more!

LAS VEGAS TRAPEZE LESSONS
Inspired by the Cirque du Soleil dancers and acrobats after a show? You’ll have a chance to put your circus skills to the test with a private trapeze lesson in Las Vegas! Train with professionals as you get the hand of high-flying action at aerial art and trapeze schools, including Trapeze Las Vegas, Xperience Days, Trapeze High, and Las Vegas Circus Circus. They even pair chocolate tastings with wine, beer, and cocktails on some occasions, so everybody in your group gets a little something.

Step off the beaten path and check out some tasty chocolate treats, learn about the chocolate making process, and spend some quality time with family and friends with a Las Vegas chocolate tasting.

SMASH ROOMS IN LAS VEGAS
Smash rooms, also known as rage rooms and wreck rooms, are a truly satisfying experience you can check out during your next trip to Las Vegas. If you’re on vacation, your goal might be to relax, unwind, and get some rest. However, you might also be running from the stresses of work and your day-to-day routine. PLANNING A LOS ANGELES TO LAS VEGAS ROAD TRIP

Whether you live in Los Angeles or are there for a visit, it’s almost obligatory that you hit the road for a bit of debauchery in Sin City. Downtown Las Vegas is about a four-hour drive from Los Angeles and welcomes Californians all year who are looking to let off some steam. Although four hours in a car might sound like a lot, there are more than enough distractions along the way to make it a fun diversion in itself!

Here are all the best stops if you’re planning a road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas:

ELMER’S BOTTLE TREE RANCH
When we say “tree ranch” here, we guarantee it’s not what you’re expecting. Created in 2000 by Elmer Long, Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch is a stunning collection of colorful bottles that is definitely an Instagram-worthy stop and a selfie-lovers dream. The wine, beer, sauce, dressing, and other types of bottles have been cleaned and strategically arranged to form “trees” that catch the light in really beautiful and unique ways. You’ll find this urban forest in Oro Grande, CA, about an hour and 30 minutes from Los Angeles.

BARSTOW STATION
Ready for a pit stop while on your way to Vegas? Look no further! Barstow Station is right off I-15 and has everything you might be craving, including a McDonald’s, Panda Express, Subway, Dunkin’ Donuts, souvenirs, clothing, munchies, handmade taffy, and not to mention, clean bathrooms! It’s also a unique building constructed from old train dining cars strung together. And at this point during your road trip, you still have about 100 miles to go before you see the Las Vegas lights, so you may want to stock up.

WESTERN AMERICA RAILROAD MUSEUM
Another hidden gem you’ll find in Barstow is the Western America Railroad Museum. Museums may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but who doesn’t love a free attraction? For no admission fee, you can check out an impressive collection of classic trains and railroad artifacts that were part of the big population and economic boom in the southwest. If you need to stretch your legs, why not look at some awesome railroad cars while you do!

OUTLETS AT BARSTOW
If you feel like doing a little discount shopping but want to avoid the crowds at the outlets in Las Vegas, the Barstow outlets are an excellent option. They have all the most popular stores and designer brands with deeply discounted prices. And if you realize you forgot to pack something, like a bathing suit, sandals, or a hat for the pool, why not swing by the Outlets at Bartow? Check out their complete store directory and make some room in the trunk for your shopping spree haul.

CALICO GHOST TOWN
Looking for a little piece of the “Old West” while on your way to Las Vegas? Calico Ghost Town in Yermo is the place to be. It was an active silver mining town that was abandoned in the 1890s, leaving the original structures and equipment behind. The ghost town was eventually purchased by Walter Knott (Californians might recognize this name because his family is also behind the popular Knott’s Berry Farm theme park in Buena Park, CA), who restored many of the buildings to their former glory. It’s only about a 10 minutes drive from the I-15 taking the Daggett-Yermo Rd./Ghost Town Rd. exit.

PEGGY SUE’S 50S DINER
Not far from Calico Ghost Town is the famous Peggy Sue’s 50s Diner. You’ve been seeing signs for it since you got to San Bernardino, so you might as well stop for a bite to eat and see what all the fuss is about. We guarantee you won’t be disappointed! On top of the 1950s nostalgia, sweet-talking servers, and convenient road trip location, they also have an excellent comfort food menu and big portions that will get you through the next leg of your journey.

EDDIE WORLD
Also in Yermo, Eddie World is hard to miss, and you’ll see why. The giant ice cream cone storefront is a recognizable marker to know you have about two hours left before you get to Las Vegas. If you have a sweet tooth, you’re not going to want to pass this place up. They have everything from specialty candies to every flavor of ice cream you can imagine! For those who want a little more, Eddie World also has artisan pizzas, gourmet sandwiches, sushi, fruit and salad bowls, hummus platters, yogurt, and more.

ABANDONED WATERPARK
If you can take this opportunity to see the abandoned Lake Dolores Waterpark, you definitely should. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience to be able to walk through the empty (and almost eerie) theme park that was officially shut down in 2004. Many of the waterslides, attractions, and buildings still stand (most are covered in graffiti) but you can get a fascinating look at the slow “decomposing” process before the structures are gone for good. Check it out during the day, but skip it if you’re doing a night trip as it’s not well-lit.

ZZYZX ROAD
We couldn’t skip over this oddly named street you’re sure to spot off the I-15 just before you get to Baker, CA. So, how did it get its name? Curtis Springer bought the land in the 1940s and developed a health resort there, which included a beautiful castle and mineral-rich natural springs. Legend has it that he named it Zzyzx because he wanted it to be the very last word in the dictionary. After some decades, the Bureau of Land Management took over and now the California State University system owns part of it for desert research efforts. It is open to the public, and you can still see the beautiful lake and wildlife.

WORLD’S TALLEST THERMOMETER
You know you’re almost to Las Vegas when you see the world’s tallest thermometer in Baker! And, yes, it’s a real thermometer that reads the actual temperature. This landmark means you have about an hour and a half left in your journey before you can hit the casino floor. This is also an excellent place to stop to grab a bite to eat at one of the many fast-food chains there.

PRIMM, NEVADA
Well, you’ve officially made it to Nevada once you cross over the border and enter Primm. This fun little stop has plenty to see and do if you don’t mind taking a side trip before making your way to Las Vegas. There are several gas stations, casinos here where you can try your luck, the Primm outlets for a little shopping, a number of restaurants with reasonable pricing, and attractions worth seeing—including a rollercoaster at Buffalo Bill’s and Bonnie and Clyde’s Death Car.

TERRIBLE’S ROAD HOUSE
Terrible’s Road House in Jean, NV, is more than just any old gas station. It is the largest Chevron station in the country! Here you’ll find 96 gas pumps and a massive convenience store selling discounted souvenirs, coffee, drinks, snacks, and food, including a White Castle. This is a great place to stock up on cold beer, liquor, or wine before getting to Las Vegas. They even have a moonshine still if you’re open to something different! You’ll also have access to huge bathrooms that are always sparkling clean.

SEVEN MAGIC MOUNTAINS
If you’ve ever driven to Las Vegas from Los Angeles before, you’ll have noticed these vibrantly colored boulders strategically stacked in columns just east of the I-15 freeway before you get to Las Vegas. Seven Magic Mountains is a unique desert art installation made by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone in 2016. Although it was only supposed to be up for two years, the Bureau of Land Management has extended the artwork’s permit due to its popularity. See them up close before they’re gone forever!

HEADING TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS?
When you get to Sin City, it can be overwhelming to know where to stay. If you’re looking for the hottest hotel packages and the best place to stay in Las Vegas, Downtown Grand has you covered. Right in the heart of downtown and only blocks away from all the action on Fremont Street, Fremont East District, Downtown Container Park, and the Las Vegas Arts District, you know you’re in for a good time at Downtown Grand. Safe travels!

The annual Life Is Beautiful Festival takes place Friday, September 17th through Sunday, September 19th, 2021, and goes from 2:00 pm to 1:00 am each day. LATE NIGHT EATS
A long day of walking, dancing, drinking, (and eating) can work up a serious appetite. Here are your best bets for late-night food that will hit the spot after a long festival day:

DENNY’S ON FREMONT STREET
Nothing caps a fun-filled night off better than a delicious plate of breakfast favorites—and you know Denny’s has everything you might be craving! Denny’s on Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas is just blocks away from the Life Is Beautiful festival grounds and is open 24 hours a day. And as a bonus, this Denny’s also has a full bar that serves up drinks around the clock.

NACHO DADDY
Open until 3:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays, Nacho Daddy’s menu features gourmet nacho concoctions that are sure to hit the spot. They also serve up tacos, burritos, fajitas, vegan options, soups and salads, and more. You’ll find Nacho Daddy on 4th Street a couple of blocks from the festival gates.

LATE NIGHT DRINKS (AND MORE EATS)
For those looking to keep the drinks flowing, Downtown Las Vegas is where you want to be. With Fremont East District and Downtown Grand only a few steps away, the after-party is ready and waiting for you after Life Is Beautiful wraps up.

FURNACE
Located right on the casino floor and just steps away from the tables is Furnace, a hip casino bar without the pretentiousness of the common Vegas nightclub. Furnace is a great place to grab a craft cocktail or late-night snack before hitting the slots and tables. Furnace also has a great selection of bar food perfect for post-festival cravings and is open 24/7.

COMMONWEALTH
Located in the Fremont East District, Commonwealth is a favorite of Las Vegas locals for its artistic vibe, craft cocktail selection, live DJs, and stunning rooftop patio views. Commonwealth will be serving up drinks until 3:00 am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, so it’s a great choice after you leave the festival.

THE GRIFFIN
Another local hotspot in Downtown Las Vegas is The Griffin on Fremont Street between Las Vegas Blvd. and 6th St. The relaxed vibe with dim lighting, stone-faced walls, and a real fireplace will set the tone for a laid back hang out with your friends after a long night. Open until 3:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays, they offer a great cocktail selection, local brews on tap, and live DJs on the weekends.

HIT THE CASINO FLOOR
If you haven’t had a chance to try your luck at the tables or slots, the perfect opportunity is after the Life Is Beautiful festival. Downtown Grand’s casino floor is open 24/7 and has great dealers ready to make it a memorable night! Even if you’re a gambling newbie, we’re here to break it down for you.

LET’S KEEP THE PARTY GOING!

CREEPY AND SPOOKY THINGS IN NEVADA TO VISIT

PUBLISHED: SEPTEMBER 29, 2021 -   Mar 11, 2022

Downtown Las Vegas is known for many things, including great restaurants, live entertainment, affordable rooms, and exciting gaming options. But what you may not know is this part of town hosts one of the biggest parties you’ll find in Sin City all year: Halloween in Downtown Las Vegas! Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s epic events and what to do for Halloween in Vegas.

HALLOWEEN PARTIES IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS
The list of Halloween events Las Vegas has to offer is endless. If you’re ready to hit downtown with your friends, be sure to check out these local Halloween bashes:

1. HALLOWEEN WEEKEND ON FREMONT STREET
The famous Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas has a long list of featured entertainment throughout Halloween weekend from October 28-31. There will be free live bands performing every evening, along with flash mobs, aerial dancers, street performers, and more. You can also take a ride on the zipline and check out the free nightly light shows on the massive screen above Fremont.

A cash-prize costume contest will take place just a few minutes from the Downtown Grand at Circa on Fremont Street. Take a break and head over on Sunday, October 31, to register and show off your costume to the downtown crowds. The top prize is $10,000, so be sure to dress to impress!

2. HALLOWEEN PARTY AT THE UNDERGROUND
The Mob Museum in Downtown Las Vegas is giving Halloween partiers free entry to the speakeasy on Saturday, October 30, from 8:00 PM – 12:00 AM! Just give the password “Heebie-Jeebies” at the door, and you’ll have access to The Underground speakeasy and distillery for live music, special Halloween cocktails, and a 1920s-themed costume contest.

3. FETISH & FANTASY HALLOWEEN BALL
Just south of Downtown Las Vegas is AREA15, a new event location that will host the annual Fetish & Fantasy Halloween Ball on Saturday, October 30. This year marks the ball’s 25 anniversary, so you know it’s going to be a good time. Live DJs and performers will keep the dance floor packed while theatrical artists mesmerize the crowds.

4. DOWNTOWN HALLOWEEN PUB CRAWL
Ready to get your drink on? There’s definitely no shortage of pubs and bars in Downtown Las Vegas for you to wet your whistle this Halloween. There are several hosted bar crawl events that will take you around downtown to sample the best beer and cocktail selection at local Las Vegas bars.

However, you may want to organize your own pub crawl and check out all the downtown bars you’ve wanted to visit. Be sure to add the classics to your list, including Sidebar, Furnace, and Hogs & Heifers for a good mix of classy elegance and rowdy fun.

HALLOWEEN FOR COUPLES IN DOWNTOWN
For those spending time with your significant other in Las Vegas this Halloween, you can also spice things up with a little bit of romance. For example, book a table for two at Triple George Grill before heading out to the Halloween festivities in Downtown Vegas. With signature cocktails, delicious steak and seafood dishes, and a classy vintage Vegas atmosphere, you’re sure to have a good time no matter what your Halloween plans are afterward.

For additional ideas, be sure to check out all the other creepy and spooky things to do in Nevada, including Zak Bagans’ The Haunted Museum and the reportedly haunted Hoover Dam. If anything, it gives you an excuse to hold each other tight!

HALLOWEEN FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
If you’re in Las Vegas to celebrate Halloween with your family, there are plenty of things to do outside of the crazy party scene. Here are some ideas in and around the downtown area:

Haunted Harvest at Springs Preserve. Springs Preserve is transforming itself for its annual Haunted Harvest event! Swing by with the kids for their haunted hay maze, live entertainment, trick or treat stations, carnival games, a haunted train ride through the preserve, and more! You can enjoy the Haunted Harvest on October 22-24 and October 29-31 from 5:00-9:00 PM.

Halloween Family Spooktacular at Container Park. Downtown Container Park will be showing the Halloween favorite film “Hocus Pocus” on the Container Park lawn and stage. Admission is free, so be sure to get there early! Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks to get cozy and enjoy time with the family. This movie event is Sunday, October 31, from 6:30-8:30 PM.
HallOVeen at Opportunity Village. Opportunity Village, just west of Downtown Las Vegas, is bringing back its annual HallOVeen event for spooky games, rides, and entertainment for all ages. Take a ride on the Spooktacular Forest Express Ghost Train, The Avalanch Slide, or the Enchanted Carousel. There will also be mini escape rooms and carnival games. Don’t forget to make reservations!

THE BEST HAUNTED HOUSE IN LAS VEGAS
Although there may be some debate on this subject, many argue that the best haunted house in Las Vegas is the Meadview Asylum & Hotel Fear Haunted House at Meadows Mall. Located just south of Downtown, the Meadows Mall parking lot is home to the most anticipated haunted house in Sin City from October 1-31, 6:30 PM to midnight every evening.

Make your way through the asylum, complete with patients who have undergone bloody genetic experiments, mentally disturbed doctors and nurses, and bone-chilling scenes around every corner. Then, step into Hotel Fear, rumored to be haunted by victims of a mass killing. This haunted house is not for the faint of heart, so come prepared to be absolutely terrified!

HALLOWEEN IN LAS VEGAS – WHAT TO EXPECT
In late October, the weather in Las Vegas is ideal, with average temperatures usually somewhere in the high 70s during the day. In the evenings, it gets cool enough to pop on a cozy costume as you go from event to event. However, you might see temperatures drop as low as 40-50 degrees during the evening, especially if you’re going to be staying out into the late-night hours. Take that into account when choosing this year’s Halloween costume!

Las Vegas visitors and locals should also expect bigger crowds for Halloween weekend, especially in Downtown and the Las Vegas Strip. With so much fun to be had throughout the city, it’s no surprise that so many people choose to celebrate Halloween season in Vegas. Just be sure to check for proof of vaccination requirements at any events or venues, and always practice the recommended health and safety guidelines while out and about.

If you want to be close to all the Halloween activities happening downtown this year, check out Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino. With special hotel packages, new rooms and suites, the hottest Downtown Las Vegas restaurants, the best gaming odds, and just blocks away from the Fremont Street action, Downtown Grand is the place to be for Halloween! 4. DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS MUSIC FESTIVALS
Over the last decade, Downtown Las Vegas has been revitalized and re-energized into the city’s cultural center. A lot of that has to do with the annual Life Is Beautiful Music & Arts Festival and other festivals choosing this part of the city to host their events. Be sure to visit downtown during a festival to see Vegas at its best.

DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS GAMING
Some of the best places to go in Vegas are the casinos. If you want to hit some Downtown Las Vegas casinos for a night on the town, the excitement of the downtown slots, table games, and sports betting are unmatched! Downtown Grand even has some of the best gaming promotions you’ll find in Sin City, including tournaments and free play for Grand Rewards Players Club members.

Downtown casinos have a more relaxed vibe than you’ll find in casinos on the Strip. Along with downtown casinos being closer together and more intimate, downtown dealers have a reputation for providing the most fun and thrilling gaming sessions in the city! Even if you don’t know much about poker, blackjack, roulette, craps, or any other table games, the dealers are always ready to help.

You can dress casually when visiting a Downtown Las Vegas casino. In fact, you’ll notice most people are comfortably dressed because they have a long night of bar-hopping, dancing, and gambling ahead! If you’re looking for a more laid-back and unpretentious gaming experience while in Vegas, downtown is the place to be.

DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS NIGHTLIFE
Las Vegas is known for crazy nightlife options that include anything from nightclubs to swimming pools, dining to gambling, and everything in between. And if you happen to find yourself in Downtown Las Vegas for the night, there’s plenty of fun to be had! Here are some ideas:

COMEDY SHOWS AT DOWNTOWN GRAND
The Delirious Comedy Club at Downtown Grand is a great venue to see live comedy from both local comics and big-name stand-ups. With shows on Thursday through Sunday, you can pick an earlier performance to get those laughs in before heading out for a Vegas adventure or a later show to wind it down after an excellent downtown dinner.

Planning a trip to Las Vegas is always an exciting task. With everything back up and running, you’ll definitely have a long list of where you want to eat, which shows you should see, what pool parties to hit, and what nightclubs to visit. However, that leaves one big question: Where are you going to stay?

With so many things to do in Downtown Las Vegas, more and more people are switching gears and staying in this hip and lively part of town. If you’re debating on whether to book a Las Vegas Airbnb or reserve a room at the Downtown Grand, our Las Vegas experts share what you can expect with both.

CONVENIENCE
When it comes to convenience, there are many perks to both a hotel and Airbnb. The benefits really depend on what you’re looking for and what you’ll be doing during your stay in Las Vegas.

An Airbnb may be further away from all the action, especially if you’re going to rent an entire house for your group. This might mean more driving or rideshares to get to where you’re going. On the other hand, Downtown Grand is right in the middle of Downtown Las Vegas, where you’re steps away from the best restaurants, bars, gaming, and live music on Fremont Street. Being able to walk to your destination and enjoy everything all in one place is a convenience many Vegas-goers want.

However, an Airbnb does provide some convenience in the form of access to a kitchen. If you’re traveling to Vegas with your family and don’t plan to go out very often, a kitchen might be much more convenient than close proximity to restaurants and entertainment.

AMENITIES
Another consideration when comparing an Airbnb to a Downtown Las Vegas hotel is amenities. What does an Airbnb have to offer, and what does the hotel provide to make your stay one for the books?

Many Airbnbs advertise some added comforts to help guests enjoy their time in Las Vegas. This could be free Netflix or HBO access, comfortable beds, or accessible parking. You may even have a pool or bbq on the property. However, you are still staying in somebody else’s home and may not have access to everything.

Hotels are designed with the guest experience in mind. Whether you forgot your toiletry bag and need extra shampoo or want to order room service for a hearty breakfast after a long night, the hotel has everything you might need and will bring it right to your door. In addition, a hotel offers amenities such as an on-site fitness center, business center, and gift shop.

The amenities at Downtown Grand include:

  • Citrus Grand Pool Deck on the hotel rooftop
  • Fitness center
  • Restaurants and bars on the property
  • Room service
  • All bathroom and grooming essentials
  • Plush bedding
  • ADA-compliant rooms
  • Free WiFi throughout the resort
  • Citrus Grand Pool in downtown Las Vegas

FLEXIBILITY
If you’re looking for a little more flexibility during your stay in Las Vegas, Airbnb might not be the way to go. Many Airbnb hosts require a two or three-night minimum stay to be able to make a booking. Hosts are also able to set their own cancellation fees, which can be a pricey risk if there’s a chance you might have to change your plans.

Also, an Airbnb only has one space, which you must vacate if the host has another booking. When this happens, you’ll have to look for another place to stay or decide to return home.

Hotels generally have a cancelation policy that includes no fees if you cancel before the deadline. With so many rooms, chances are a hotel can make accommodations for you if you need to stay longer. At Downtown Grand, you can stay for only one night or multiple nights and can often find great hotel deals for any type of Vegas getaway.

COST
When it comes to cost, several factors come into play. How many people are you staying with? What type of room do you need? For Airbnb, are you content staying in a single room in another person’s house, or do you want to rent the entire property? For a hotel, do you need a suite or a room with a view? Are you heading to Las Vegas during the week or weekend?

Overall, you must weigh these factors and consider what choice makes the most sense for your group. Renting an Airbnb home can be expensive, but it might not be too bad if you’re splitting the cost with multiple people. However, you may end up spending more on transportation.

Because Downtown Grand has everything you need all in one place, you could potentially save a lot by staying in the downtown area.
