Stone Temple Pilots
Despite being formed in San Diego, their initial rise to fame in the ’90s led to a more Seattle grunge sound. As the band gained more musical influence and released new albums, they took on more of a psychedelic rock and bossa nova sound.
Emerging in the early ’90s with Tom Delonge as the lead, blink-182 was known for their high-energy shows and lyrical toilet humor. Fast forward to 2015; the band is now led by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba. The new formation released their first album together in 2016 entitled California, a true ode to where it all began.
The Beach Boys
Beginning as a garage band, The Beach Boys gained national prominence in 1963 with the creation of the “California Sound.” After a few years of making music, The Beach Boys moved away from the beach tunes and instead took a more personal route with their lyrics and sound.

Eagles during the Hell Freezes Over era. (From left to right) Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, Don Henley, Don Felder and Glenn Frey. Question: What's your favorite "new" song off of Hell Freezes Over? "Get Over It", "Love Will Keep Us Alive", "The Girl From Yesterday" or "Learn To Be Still?" My favorite is "Learn To Be Still" – amazing lyrics. It's the type of song where – even just hearing it in the background – you know you are in the presence of a really good song. #TheEagles #Eagles #DonFelder #DonHenley #GlennFrey #TimothyBSchmit #JoeWalsh #1994 #HellFreezesOver
With 5 number 1 singles, 6 Grammy Awards, 5 American Music Awards and 6 number 1 albums, the Eagles are easily the biggest and most successful acts to come out of the 1970s. Their fifth album Hotel California is one of the best-selling rock albums of all time; the album was titled because of all the connotations associated with the word “California.”
The American punk rock band, Green Day, has been in the music industry since the late ’80s. Stemming out of the San Fran area, Green Day began at the DIY Club located at 924 Gilman Street. It wasn’t until 1994 with their major label debut Dookie that Green Day was credited alongside fellow California punk bands Sublime, Bad Religion, the Offspring, and Rancid.

The Grateful Dead, formed in the ’60s, is most known for its unique style fused with elements of rock, psychedelia, modal jazz, country, folk, space rock, and reggae. Their psychedelic sounds made the band known as “pioneering Godfathers of the jam band world.” The Grateful Dead has since been ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 57th Greatest Artist of All Time.
